About Sam Lafoca… The Aerial Photographer
"Photography from a higher source"
Sam Lafoca, the Aerial Photographer is at his best, with camera in hand, hanging out the side of a turbine powered helicopter. Whether still photography for print or High Definition video for broadcast, Sam’s expertise in creating images from the air is surpassed only by his passion for photography.
Sam was first spotted with camera in hand in the 1970’s, (call him a photo Geek) while other kids were at the post-game parties, “Lafocus” was in his home-made garage based darkroom printing game photos for the local newspaper’s midnight deadline; that’s where the commitment started.
During his career building years, Sam has worked as a portrait photographer, TV News cameraman for WLS-TV News in Chicago, KTLA, KNBC and KABC News in Los Angeles, “Inside Edition,” plus various freelance gigs for shows such as the BBC and 48 hrs. Sam’s images have been viewed by millions, both Broadcast TV and Print.
Beginning in 1993, Sam has been the Cameraman for the KTLA “Morning News.” Sam has totaled over 20,000 hours of aerial flight time behind the Gyro Stabilized Camera of “Sky-5.” Sam’s photography work is hanging in the “Newseum” in Washington D.C. Sam has been the recipient of 3 Golden Mic awards, and a few awards from the Professional Photographers of America, also nominated by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for an Emmy. Sam has the reputation of commitment to professional - personal service which is demonstrated by the satisfaction of his clients. From conception, to final delivery, Sam has the experience to get it done…right...the first time…on time.
When Sam is not in his airborne studio somewhere between 300 and 10,00 feet above the ground, Sam enjoys “quality-time” with his two boys, Sammy and Zack, his wife Kim and two dogs, Pancakes and Popcorn… …the kids named the dogs.
